Built for the next decision
Independent East Coast fishing intelligence for anglers who care where the information came from.
Saltwater News watches the working edge of the Atlantic—from Maine through Florida—and connects dock reports, official conditions, changing regulations, and practical gear into one readable field briefing.
Editorial mission
Saltwater News is a source-first newsroom and data product for recreational anglers, charter customers, captains, and crews planning a trip along the Atlantic coast. Our job is to make the next decision easier without pretending that fishing, weather, or regulations are more certain than they are. We connect the practical question—what might affect the next trip?—to the underlying report, forecast, rule, or public notice. That means identifying what was reported, when and where it was reported, who supplied it, and what the source does not establish. A useful briefing can include uncertainty; it should never turn a gap in coverage into a claim that no fish, hazard, or change exists.
Our coverage runs from Maine through Florida’s Atlantic coast. That geography includes very different fisheries, ports, state rules, weather patterns, and access questions, so we keep regional context visible instead of treating the coast as one uniform bite. Reports from a charter, headboat, marina, or regional publication remain attributed observations. Official marine forecasts, storm products, and regulations take priority when safety or compliance is at stake, and we link the controlling source so readers can check the current version before leaving the dock.
How we vet sources
We prefer named operators and established regional outlets for fishing reports, and official agencies for conditions and rules. Before publishing, we check the source identity, original URL, report date, affected region, and the distinction between a direct observation and a broader interpretation. We summarize rather than republish source copy or images. When a source is stale, unavailable, or limited to one port, we say so. A Saltwater News report is an attributed claim—not an independent guarantee of a catch, a forecast, or legal permission.
What we are not
We are not a forecast service, charter broker, captain-ranking platform, regulation authority, or substitute for seamanship. We do not publish precise secret spots or pretend a model can guarantee a bite. Before a trip, use current official forecasts and regulations, local notices, onboard equipment, and qualified local judgment for the exact route and launch point.
Independent and transparent
Affiliate revenue may support the work, but it does not buy a positive recommendation or alter safety and regulation coverage. Commercial links are labeled and kept separate from editorial decisions. Read our affiliate disclosure for how those links work. If we publish an error, the corrections policyexplains how to report it and how we document material fixes. We welcome specific, source-based feedback at our contact page.
