Update, Friday October 23: NWS Melbourne FL issued a Coastal Flood Watch at 2:23 AM EDT for coastal Volusia, coastal Indian River, coastal St. Lucie, and coastal Martin counties in Florida, and all Brevard County barrier island and mainland zones. The watch runs through October 26 at 2:00 AM EDT, the same perigean spring tide event driving the watches to the north. Affected areas include Daytona Beach (Volusia), Titusville, Cocoa Beach, and Melbourne (Brevard), Vero Beach (Indian River), Fort Pierce (St. Lucie), and Stuart (Martin). Marina access roads, boat ramp approaches, and waterfront parking in low-lying tidal areas may flood at high tide through the watch period. Current products are at weather.gov/mlb.
NWS Jacksonville FL issued a Coastal Flood Watch at 7:17 PM EDT Thursday, October 22, 2026 for six county zones along the Georgia and northeast Florida coast. The Florida zones are Coastal Nassau, Coastal Duval, Coastal Flagler, Southeast Coastal St. Johns, and Northeast Coastal St. Johns. The Georgia zones are Coastal Glynn and Coastal Camden.
The watch period runs late Friday night through Monday morning, with expiration set at October 26, 2026 at 11:00 AM EDT. A watch means significant coastal flooding is possible; if NWS upgrades to a warning, flooding is imminent. The NWS alert states that numerous roads may be closed and that low-lying property, including homes, businesses, and some critical infrastructure, may be inundated. A separate rip current risk and a coastal flood advisory for minor, ongoing flooding are also active for parts of this corridor.
The watch period falls around the perigean full moon on October 26, when the Moon reaches its closest point to Earth. Spring tides during a perigean full moon run measurably higher than a standard spring tide; that added water-level height is why NWS is issuing a four-day look-ahead rather than a same-day warning. The October 26 king tide is the same event flagged in the NOAA High Tide Flooding Outlook published October 15.
Affected ports along the tidal corridor from north to south: Fernandina Beach and Amelia Island (Nassau County, FL), Mayport, Jacksonville Beach, and Ponte Vedra Beach (Duval County, FL), St. Augustine and Vilano Beach (St. Johns County, FL), Flagler Beach (Flagler County, FL), Brunswick and St. Simons Island (Glynn County, GA), and St. Marys and Kingsland (Camden County, GA). Marina access roads, boat ramp approaches, and waterfront parking in low-lying tidal areas may flood at high tide across the watch period.
NDBC conditions as of late Thursday, October 22: station 41114 (Fort Pierce, FL, 134 nm south of the watch corridor) recorded 4-foot seas and water at 80 degrees Fahrenheit at 8:56 PM EST. Station 41068 (Fort Pierce, FL) recorded NNE winds of 14 knots gusting to 19 knots at 8:08 PM EST. Station 41113 (Cape Canaveral Nearshore, FL) recorded 3-foot seas and water at 75 degrees Fahrenheit at 8:56 PM EST. Offshore sea conditions along this corridor are moderate; the flood watch is driven by tidal height, not offshore swell. The controlling pre-departure check is the NWS Jacksonville zone forecast at weather.gov/jax, not buoy readings alone.
